Visa Closed to New Applications
As of July 1, 2024, the Skilled - Recognised Graduate visa (Subclass 476) is no longer open to new applicants. A cap was placed on this visa on December 22, 2023, and it has been permanently closed by the Australian Government.
This visa previously allowed recent engineering graduates to live, work, or study in Australia for up to 18 months to gain skilled work experience. However, this pathway is now closed.
Family Members - No Subsequent Entrants Allowed
From July 1, 2024, no subsequent entrant applications for family members can be submitted under Subclass 476.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicant must be age 31 or younger
- Applicant must not have previously held Subclass 476 or Subclass 485
- Applicant must have an eligible engineering qualification from a recognised institution in the past 24 months
Applicant engineering degree should be in one of the following disciplines:
- Civil engineering
- Structural engineering
- Chemical engineering
- Environmental engineering
- Electrical and electronics engineering
- Mechanical, production and plant engineering
- Mining and material engineering
You should have completed one of these degrees in the last two years:
- Bachelor's degree
- Master's degree
- Doctoral degree
- Postgraduate degree
English Requirements for the 476 Visa
If you are a citizen of the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America, or the Republic of Ireland, or if you hold a valid passport from one of those countries, you are considered to meet the English language requirement for this visa. Otherwise, you must provide evidence from one of the specified English language tests before applying.

Health and Character Requirements (Still Apply for Active Visa Holders)
If you are still holding a valid Subclass 476 visa, you must continue to meet Australian health and character standards:
- Health check: medical examinations conducted within the last 12 months
- Character check: police certificates from every country you have lived in for 12+ consecutive months over the past 10 years
